I am a special education teacher at a small rural K-8 school on the flanks of Mt. Hood. My caseload consists of kids with learning disabilities, ADHD, autism, and minor emotional disturbances. Many of these kids love to ski and snowboard. I've been sucked into alpine skiing at a serious beginner level as a result of working where I do; we'll see if I manage to make it off the beginner slopes during this year's lesson nights sponsored by our school. I find the ski bum life curiously attractive in some respects; that is, if you call someone with a fondness for the bunny slopes a ski bum.

Currently I'm also trying to launch a writing career; this is attempt number three or four at seriously writing and submitting work. I am currently working on a science fiction/romance crossover-type novel and have several science fiction and fantasy short stories circulating at the moment.

I also own a nice little well-bred Quarter Horse mare with heavy reining and cutting bloodlines. At some time I'd like to participate in low-level reining, Western equitation, versatility, dressage, and eventing competitions with her. I'm an all-around girl at heart, and think that too much of the modern horse show world has focused on specialization. While Mocha displays excellent haunches turns, lateral and sliding stop skills, she also has this monster big trot which has startled more than one Big Name Professional into commenting that she moves like a horse almost eight inches taller than she is. She is truly a classic all-around Quarter Horse of old-time tradition, and I have no doubts that she'd also do a decent job of chasing a cow or two (she is a descendant of Doc O'Lena on both sides).

I'm married with a young adult son who has ambitions in journalism. Our household is also home to two rabbits; an elderly Mini Lop buck and a middle-aged Standard Rex buck, both of whom are retired from the 4-H show circuit with the above-mentioned son.
